The Naples Carolers

(239) 354-1817

Audition
The Naples Carolers has been training and booking costumed, acapella (SATB) Christmas Caroling quartets since 2005.  We are the premiere caroling organization in Southwest Florida.  Auditions are held in early August every year.  September through November, we rehearse every Sunday afternoon, with additional rehearsals held also within each quartet.  The perfomance season runs Thanksgiving through Christmas and your personal performance hours are based largely upon your availability and performance preparation.  Singers make between $25-40/hour based on seniority and leadership.  Rehearsals are not paid.  All Carolers must be at least 17 years of age and have transportation.

What to expect at your audition

The audition will last about 10 minutes and has three parts:

1.  Monologue
We want to know how you might speak to an audience as a Caroler.  Please prepare a holiday monologue, approximately 30-60 seconds in length.  You could share your thoughts or memories of a favorite holiday experience.  You could give an introduction to the song you're going to sing, explaining what it means to you, or perhaps recite a holiday poem or give a reading of a lyric and why it is special to you.  We want you to be yourself, this is not a traditional actors monologue "in character".

2   Singing Solo
Next, you’ll sing a verse of a Christmas song of your choosing, a cappella, unaccompanied, any style. Choose a song you're comfortable with rather than a song that you think will impress us. Be aware that we may ask you to sing a few bars of another familiar carol if we want to hear another side of your voice.

3.  Musicianship
Finally, we’ll have you sight-read a song or two with a quartet. There is no expected or required level
needed to qualify. We just want to get a rough idea of how well and how quickly you’ll be able to learn music.
